Here and Now - Daredevils and Queens

Last night was a great night. The opening of my new show at Daredevils and Queens in Santa Rosa went off and everything turned out really great. The bands were awesome, the food was grubbin', the beer was flowing and everyone seemed to have a good time. Thank you to Travis and Stephanie for throwing the party and putting up with all us hooligans. Here are some photos I took of the party.

Rad shadow on the wall

The Dirty Jerks showed up and made sure everyone had a good time.

I painted the back wall of the salon (behind the stage) as an installation for the show. Here are some progression shots I took while at work:

And the finished product:

I share your pain....

Anyone who's ever been stopped in southbound traffic on highway 101 through Petaluma, California, during the early fall months because of some crappy halloween corn field with a stupid sign saying "How high is the corn" and everyone slows down to see how high the stupid corn is............... this is for you. I share your pain.

Snapped this photo in Santa Rosa, earlier this morning:

Collabro Print Available

Chris Jehly and I were invited to participate in Collabro NYC this year. The lineup is freakin' amazing and we're super stoked to be a part of it. Check out the flyer...

WOW! I know, right!?!?!
Here's a small version of the piece we "collabro'd" on. If you click on the image, it will take you to a bigger version of the piece. Do it now!

My friends over at: Zerofriends.com helped us print some beautiful giclee prints of the piece, a limited run of 49 to be exact. They are available for $50 in the Excessive Nonsense Online Store. Each print is hand signed and numbered by the two of us. Don't sleep on it, they won't be around long.

Word up!

Phoenix Festival - June 2nd

(This one's for Petre)

Everyone should go to this.... and not because they'll be selling signed prints of the poster and a new shirt design by me, but because it's going to have some great music and it's for a good cause. See you there.

This is the shirt design - 3 colors on gray shirts - men and women's shirts will be available.
This first opportunity to get a shirt will be the night of the show.

Last day for Northpoint

Today is the last day to catch the Northpoint show. Thank you to everyone who came out to see it, I was pumped on all the feedback. I won't have any shows during the month of May to give myself some time to get ready for a busy summer. The next show is at the Cool Cat Gallery in Sacramento.... the second Saturday in June with my cobra commander partner in crime, Chris Jehly. Get it!! More info to come.

"Dwellin' in the Lab"

I recently got a new camera to replace the one I dropped for the last time. I can now get back on track with the photo taking. I tested out the camera on my studio, here's a couple shots of where I spend many hours and minutes.

DRD/Empire Computers door project

I recently hooked up some art on a door for computer and design studio in Windsor, California. Dave was nice enough to take some progress shots while I painted, drank and painted some more. It was the first really warm day we've had this spring and man did it feel good!

While I painted, Dave's business partner Spencer got back to the shop from a ride. Apparently, a car full of smokin' hot girls flirted with him the whole way up the freeway. Spencer was stoked, although nothing came about from the flirtatious vixens. Here are the photos Dave took of Spencer explaining how hot these girls really were.

"They were ssooooo hot, man!!"

That's one bad ass bike, Spencey!

ok, back to painting....

I picked out some very earthy colors that day...

I pout my upper lip when I'm deep in concentration.

Get outta the shot!

I never knew my back was so sexy...

Finished product installed. Baseball bats are used on those who don't pay on time.

Thanks to Dave Rogers Design and Empire Computers for me letting come out and wreck shop on their door.

Watts Happenings #1

I wanted to take a few minutes and update you on the on-going and up coming events that I am a part of:

I currently have some work hanging at the Northpoint Cafe in Rohnert Park through May 5th. The cafe is located inside the Tesoro gas station next to In&Out. I know, I know, a cafe inside a gas station, yeah right! But hear me out, the food and drinks at this place are amazing! Easily the best hidden gem in Rohnert Park.... I'm not kidding! If anything, go there for the food and not the art...

The official address is 5085 Redwood Drive, Rohnert Park, CA 94928 for all you map-questers and you can reach them by phone at (707) 586-0116. Easy access on and off Hwy. 101 nearby. They're open 5:30am - 5:00pm Monday thru Friday and 7:00am - 4:00pm on Saturday, closed Sunday.

I will have a piece in the next group show at the Boomerang Gallery in Petaluma. The show is called Grace and Madness and is being curated by Jiri Jacknowitz, a phenomenal artist and Petaluma local (you may have seen his art at the last Boomerang show).

The reception is April 14th (next Saturday) from 7 - 10pm. There's always a good time and a good vibe at the Boomerang parties. Boomerang Gallery is located in the Heebe-Jeebe General Store, 46 Kentucky Street, Petaluma, CA 94952, or (707) 773-3222 for more info.

My good friend Chris Jehly and I are hard at work, getting ready for a couple of two-man shows later this summer. We will be showing new works at the Cool Cat Gallery in Sacramento in June. The receptions for the Cool Cat Gallery shows are always the second Saturdays of the month, I believe that is June 9th. Cool Cat Gallery is a very hip, little gallery located at 918 24th Street (between J & I), Sacramento, CA 95816, (916) 446-4430.

Chris and I are also working on a collaborative piece for Poor Al's "Collabro" show in New York City. Collabro is a group effort, every piece in the show is worked on by multiple artists and we are both very proud to be a part of this show. It opens on the 8th of June (private opening), and the 9th (public opening) at The Showroom (Toy Tokyo and Thunderdog Studios gallery). It's being co-curated by Tristan Eaton.

After those shows, we will then gear up for a two-man show in July at the Sonoma Coffee Company located in downtown Santa Rosa. I will provide more details on that show when the time comes.

I was recently featured in XFuns issue 28, an art and design magazine from Taipei, Taiwan. They did an eight-page spread on my work with an interview in both English and Chinese. It's a very cool magazine, high quality with amazing artists featured in every issue. For more info you can check out the website: http://www.xfuns.com
I do believe they have an English version of the site as well for those of you that don't read Chinese.

I'm in the process of producing a series of screen-printed works that I will have for sale on my website: http://www.rickywatts.com/
...and...
Later this summer I will have my first book / hard-cover zine "Excessive Nonsense" available as well. A release party will be scheduled for the book at a currently undisclosed location. I will send out an e-mail when those are available and you will be the first to know. Also, I update my blog frequently with all the latest news and happenings. That can be found at: http://rickywatts.livejournal.com

Cheers,
-RW

FOR SALE - Self standing portable ART wall

I need to sell this really cool wall I put together. I no longer have the room and I'm looking to find a good home for it. It is four, pre-drilled closet doors that are hinged together (like an accordian) to create a self standing, portable wall. It's pretty heavy, my guess is 75 to 80 pounds, made from quality wood, not that home depot partical board fiber crap. The doors were originally painted for an artshow in 2005. They measure 78 inches tall x 12 feet wide (it folds up to 72"x36"). I can deliver the piece anywhere in Sonoma County, anything outside of that, you need to come pick it up.

Email me with any questions or to discuss a price..... himself@rickywatts.com
